(Minneapolis, MN and Snellville, GA) — Elan Credit Card (Elan) has announced today the renewal of its corporate sponsorship with African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC). In April 2023, the two organizations will expand their partnership by offering a financial literacy event through Junior Achievement of Dallas, Inc. to support middle school students in the Duncanville, TX area.
The mission of AACUC is to increase diversity within the credit union community through advocacy and professional development. Through its Commitment to Change: Credit Unions Unite Against Racism Initiative, AACUC seeks to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion in the financial services industry through initiatives that work to close the racial wealth gap, advocate for financial inclusion, and foster community involvement.
“In 2021, Elan Credit Card pledged our commitment to the mission of AACUC to end racism in the credit union community. We’re delighted to expand our work with AACUC this year by providing 200 middle school students an experience in the JA Finance Park® program,” said Matt Good, Elan SVP & Director – Regional Partnerships.
“When renewing our partnership, we knew we wanted to support AACUC’s pillar of community involvement. Young adults are our future, and this event will help students learn and practice money management skills as they prepare to manage their own finances,” Good added.
“Elan is the perfect partner to help us invest in our member communities,” said Renée Sattiewhite, AACUC President and Chief Executive Officer. “By collaborating with Elan, our AACUC Texas Regional Chapter and the Junior Achievement of Dallas, we’re able to connect with students from underrepresented communities and expose them to financial education in a meaningful and fully immersive experience, which could have a long-lasting positive impact on their development and transition to becoming financial responsible young adults. We’re grateful for Elan’s partnership and support.”
AACUC’s work to increase diversity and inclusion in the credit union industry and beyond includes assisting in creation of curriculum aimed at addressing wealth equity in communities of color and supporting the development of a model focused on reaching and building partnerships in diverse communities for large credit unions. AACUC offers professional development and mentorship programs that provide opportunities to gain competencies, build personal networks, and advance professionals of color as well as allies within the credit union industry.
