We’re excited to have celebrated the 76th anniversary of International Credit Union Day! This year’s theme, "One World Through Cooperative Finance," honors the spirit of the global credit union movement.

On this special day, we reflected on our history, celebrate our achievements, and shared inspiring member experiences. 

Our esteemed panelists were:

Bill Cheney
President/CEO
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union

SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union is the largest credit union in California and the fifth largest in the nation, with 1.2 million members and $28 billion in assets.

Bill has worked in the credit union movement for more than 35 years. He joined SchoolsFirst FCU in 2014 as CEO after working in credit unions in Texas and California as well as serving as the CEO of credit union trade associations at the state and national level. He is a recognized leader in the cooperative movement and serves on the boards of the Consumer Federation of America, Worldwide Credit Union Foundation, the Filene Research Institute and the Western CUNA Management School Board of Trustees. Additionally, he was appointed to the CU Direct Board in February 2022. In addition to his work with cooperatives, Bill serves on the Board of Trustees of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, the Cal State Fullerton Philanthropic Foundation Board of Governors, the UCI Chief Executive Roundtable and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Foundation Board of Directors.

Bill is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, completed the CUES Directors' Leadership Institute at the London Business School and the Advanced Leadership Institute at Harvard Business School.

Bill and his wife, Crissy, live in Orange County, California. They have two adult children and four young grandchildren.



Susan Mitchell
Chief Executive Officer
Mitchell, Stankovic and Associates

As the CEO of Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates, Susan is a strategic advisor to Boards and CEOs, providing innovative consulting services, including strategic planning and board governance globally. She is a successful entrepreneur who began her career at a service bureau developing applications for the financial services industry (appraisal multiple regression modeling, branch data exchange, and retail delivery). Her first company, MyDAS, created the innovative multi-media online university (cuu.com / banku.com), online consumer education (English and Spanish), marketing, and mystery shopping to thousands of FIs worldwide. These programs attracted the attention of Liberty/Harland, and after a successful M&A in 2005, Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates launched its consulting practice.

Through her volunteer efforts, Susan is changing lives. She is the founding Chair of the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN), where she worked with thousands of wonderful credit union people to create a premier program that has members from six continents and 85 countries. GWLN received the Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor globally for credit union service. In 2018 Susan was presented the Herb Wegner Lifetime Achievement Award by NCUF, and last September, Susan was inducted into America’s CU Museum Hall of Fame, honoring women who’ve changed the industry. Susan serves on the Worldwide Foundation Board, connecting 297 million members globally and the national CU DEI Governing Body. She is a pioneer sponsor of CU Pride, the LBGTQ+ CU Association. In February of 2022, she worked with international leaders to establish the Polish/American Ukrainian Refugee CU to CU fund and now serves on Via Stella Foundation’s Advisory Council. Susan serves on the African American Honorary Committee and partners with NLCUP, Inclusiv, CUWLA, and WOCCU.



Renée Sattiewhite
President/CEO
African-American Credit Union Coalition

Renée Sattiewhite serves as the President/CEO of the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC). With her unique vitality and forward-looking vision, she has created one of the most dynamic organizations in the credit union movement. Her high energy, high expectations and high touch approach for leading the 501c3 nonprofit has created a momentum for growth, change and a compelling commitment towards eradicating racism. Her leadership has successfully propelled the organization forward to offer a credible voice that addresses today’s dialogue on race, equity, and inclusion for all, making AACUC the leading influencer on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the credit union movement.

In 2020 with the growing visibility of the Black Lives Matter movement, Renée became one of the most notable social justice catalysts, encouraging the credit union industry to become more aware of the urgent need for change toward true racial equality and economic justice, resulting in launching AACUC’s Commitment to Change: Credit Unions Unite Against Racism initiative. In 2022, under her leadership, AACUC won the Anchor Award presented by the National Credit Union Foundation. Recently, Renée has received the inaugural Neoteric Changemaker Award (now named the Renée Sattiewhite Neoteric Changemaker Award) presented by CU Leadership and was inducted into America's Credit Union Museum Herstory exhibit.



Mike Reuter
President
Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions

Mike has twelve years of nonprofit executive management experience growing the impact of nonprofit organizations in various sectors. Reuter began serving the World Council of Credit Unions in 2018 as Executive Director for the Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, tasked with increasing stakeholder engagement, revenue diversification, and impact growth.

From 2018-2022, Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions maintained an 85% donor retention rate while realizing 114% growth in contributions during the same period. Mike holds a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mike became a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2021.
