Shape Lending. Drive Growth.

The best lending leaders balance growth with sound credit judgment, bringing new ideas and strategies that strengthen the portfolio while creating more opportunities to serve members.

American Broadcast Employees Federal Credit Union (ABE FCU) is seeking a strategic, hands-on Vice President of Lending (VP of Lending) to lead its consumer and residential real estate lending functions. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of senior leadership, this individual has a seat at the strategic table, helping shape lending strategy and broader organizational priorities while bringing fresh perspectives to products, channels, technology, partnerships, and opportunities for growth.

This is an opportunity for a leader who enjoys shaping strategy while staying closely connected to the business. The VP of Lending sets direction while remaining actively engaged with the lending team, portfolio performance, complex credit decisions, products, partners, and processes. Success requires a collaborative leader who can evaluate what is working, identify opportunities to do things differently, and translate new ideas into strategies that drive responsible growth and stronger performance.

The Opportunity

ABE FCU is entering an important phase of its lending strategy. After several years of increased real estate originations, the Credit Union is expanding its focus on consumer lending, with an emphasis on rebuilding its auto portfolio, growing direct and indirect channels, and leveraging partnerships to diversify the portfolio and reach new members.

Real estate remains an important part of the lending strategy, with continued opportunities across first mortgages, home equity, and secondary-market lending. The Credit Union is also evolving its credit card program to strengthen member engagement, portfolio growth, and profitability. The VP of Lending brings these priorities together into a cohesive strategy while continually evaluating the portfolio, products, processes, and delivery channels for new opportunities. Working closely with Collections and other leaders across the organization, the VP uses portfolio trends and performance insights to strengthen credit practices, policies, procedures, and loss-management strategies.

Key areas of leadership include:

  • Shaping and executing lending strategies that support sustainable growth, portfolio diversification, profitability, and asset quality
  • Leading consumer, auto, residential real estate, and credit card lending programs while identifying opportunities to evolve products, pricing, and delivery
  • Bringing new ideas and perspectives to lending products, technology, strategic partnerships, and channels that strengthen member relationships and create new opportunities for growth
  • Maintaining strong underwriting, credit quality, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance while balancing growth with sound credit discipline
  • Partnering closely with Collections to evaluate portfolio trends and strengthen credit practices, policies, procedures, and loss-management strategies
  • Collaborating with the CEO, Finance, ALCO, and leaders across the organization to align lending strategy with financial, balance-sheet, and organizational objectives
  • Leading and developing the lending team while advancing processes, technology, operational effectiveness, and the member experience

Ideal candidates will bring:

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible lending experience, including consumer and residential real estate lending
  • 3+ years of lending leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting, credit administration, portfolio management, lending operations, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing lending strategies that drive growth while maintaining strong credit quality and sound risk management
  • Experience across consumer lending products and channels, with auto and indirect lending experience highly valued
  • Knowledge of residential real estate lending, including mortgage and home equity products
  • Experience using portfolio performance and credit trends to inform lending strategies, policies, and practices
  • Experience evaluating lending technology, third-party partnerships, products, or channels and identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to bring forward new ideas, influence across the organization, and think strategically while remaining actively engaged in execution
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Credit union or community financial institution experience preferred
