Kitsap Credit Union is seeking an experienced Vice President of Accounting to lead a critical function supporting the organization’s financial strength, operational accuracy, and accountability. Reporting to the CFO, this leader will oversee accounting operations, internal controls, compliance, audit coordination, and key accounting activities while partnering closely with executive leadership, the Board, and the VP of Finance.

This is an opportunity for a collaborative and strategic accounting leader who enjoys building strong processes, supporting operational excellence, developing teams, and helping an organization navigate growth and change. The role offers both visibility and influence across the organization while remaining grounded in the day-to-day leadership of the accounting function.

The ideal candidate brings strong accounting leadership experience within a financial institution environment and values partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Kitsap is looking for someone who can balance technical expertise with practical leadership and relationship-building across the organization.

The position offers hybrid flexibility, allowing work from either Kitsap Credit Union’s Bremerton headquarters or its satellite Seattle office twice a week.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an accomplished accounting executive with deep experience in a financial institution environment, preferably within a credit union or bank. The ideal candidate brings a strong command of GAAP, regulatory reporting, internal controls, CECL, audit coordination, and evolving accounting standards, along with the judgment and executive presence to operate effectively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Successful candidates will offer:

Significant accounting leadership experience within a financial institution

A track record of leading accurate, compliant, and insightful financial and regulatory reporting

Experience working directly with auditors, examiners, and executive leadership

Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and developing teams

A process improvement mindset and the ability to optimize systems, tools, and workflows

The ability to balance strategic thinking with operational follow-through

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA designation highly preferred

Compensation Range: $178,245 - $235,000 Depending on Experience

Bonus Target: 15% potential incentive of base pay
