Chief Financial Officer
Role:
To direct the financial affairs of the Credit Union; to establish major economic and financial objectives and policies for the Credit Union. Treasurer for the Foundation with reporting responsibilities including but not limited to the 990 Report.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting departments; hires, trains, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the departments; recommends promotions/transfers and salary adjustments.
- Oversee the Treasury, budgeting, Asset-Liability Management, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate, and insurance activities.
- Prepares financial reports; ensures complete/accurate financial, statistical, and accounting records of the Credit Union.
- Directs the Credit Union's investment activities as custodian of funds, securities, and assets of the organization.
- Directs preparation and evaluation of budgets and capital plans; directs receipt, disbursement, and expenditures of money and/or capital assets.
- Oversee reporting to regulatory authorities and to the Board.
- Works with auditors/examiners on year-end and comprehensive audits.
- Formulates and executes investment policy; prepares financial forecasts.
- Provides safekeeping, control and accounting for assets and securities.
- Review operational procedures to obtain optimum efficiency and reduced costs.
- Writes, reviews, and distributes financial policy and procedure statements to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
- To ensure the Credit Union's financial activities follow sound financial principles and comply with all banking regulations.
- To maintain a highly qualified staff, sufficient to meet long-term organizational goals.
- To keep management informed regarding key operating issues affecting the Credit Union.
- To achieve results as specified in the Credit Union's budget for investments.
- To complete performance reviews within the prescribed time frame.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Eight to ten years of similar or related experience.
Education: (1) A master's degree, or (2) a bachelor's degree plus professional certification (e.g., CPA).
Interpersonal Skills: Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position
Other Skills: A degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
Excellent analytical skills, people skills and self-direction.
Proficiency with PC accounting, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
Background in financial data processing systems preferred.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
