She is the co-founder of the AACUC, is an African American Credit Union Hall of Fame Inductee and Pete Crear Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. A Certified Chief Executive, Credit Union Development Educator, and International South Africa CUDE, she has dedicated her career to being a servant leader.
Summary
Strategies can be defined as high-level plans to achieve objectives based on perceived circumstances. For small asset size credit unions, strategies are plans for operational objectives that lead to successful results. What does that mean? It means the error for missing strategic assumptions has to be very small. The alignment of goals and actions throughout the organization.

She has more than 30 years of experience working in the fields of community development and regulated financial institutions. Prior to joining the NCUA, she enjoyed a 10-year career with the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund.     Joshua Krantz is the Program Manager of the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund with NCUA’s Office of Credit Union Resources and Expansion. He joined NCUA in December 2018 and had previously worked on federal grant programs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. Through the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund, he – in collaboration with the Grants and Loans Team – provides low-income and minority credit unions with technical grants and loans to build their capacity and reach underserved communities.

She is a former board member for one of the first community development credit unions established in Georgia (Bond Community Federal Credit Union, is the former CEO of two small Georgia credit unions (IBEW Local 613 FCU and Bond Community FCU) and most recently served as COO for Coca-Cola FCU for almost 15 years.

NCUA and state examiners are committed to enforcing the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), so complying with the regulation should be a top priority for every credit union. Get the information you need to ensure your training requirements have been met before your examiner walks in the door.     Arlo Washington is the Founder and President of PEOPLE TRUST Community Loan Fund; a Community Development Financial Institution certified by the U.S Treasury’s CDFI Fund since 2016. In 2021 People Trust deployed 50 million in PPP loans to more than 2600 small businesses, who otherwise would not have received the relief. Washington’s focus is to be the link between access to financial services and personal financial outcomes-improved credit availability and reduced poverty.

    Ben Hering is the Strategic Account Manager for CU Collaborate and has worked in credit unions for over eleven years.     Juan Fernández Ceballos is the President/CEO of the Credit Union Association of New Mexico. Juan has served the credit union movement for nearly 20 years. Juan’s experience includes leading community development efforts in New York, drafting successful legislative initiatives to lower the compliance burden and enable New Mexico credit unions to reach more markets and building cooperation through economic development. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he is passionate about helping cooperatives reaching Latino, immigrant and communities of color. Heirs property, or family land, occurs when a landowner passes away without an estate plan. Recent estimates suggest that over $20B of real estate value is owned by heirs who do not have clear title to their family land. As a result, they are often unable to manage and maintain the property leading to significant rates of land loss among heir property landowners. In this session, we will explore what heirs property is, how it affects the families and communities it is in, the importance of estate planning to prevent creating heirs property, and resources, including the Heir Property Relending Program, that are available to help families clear title and enjoy the full benefit of their family wealth.

    Samira has experience in international economic development, community development, economic policy research, and DEI. She joined the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in 2018 as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Economics Department. In 2020 she was promoted to Vice President for DEI. Before joining CUNA, she worked for Forward Community Investments, a CDFI focused on advancing racial equity. Earlier, Samira worked at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in Washington D.C., as their Senior Trade Analyst for Labor. Samira earned her Ph.D. in Political Economy and Public Policy and her M.A. in Economics from the University of Southern California.
